Court Orders Shell to cut emissions
A recent report by the BBC News (June 10, 2021) indicated that a court in the Netherlands has ordered Shell to reduce its CO2 emissions by 45% based on its 2019 levels. The case was brought against Shell by Friends of the Earth (FoE).
While the decision applies only to the Netherlands, it could have wider effects elsewhere.
This is the first time that a company has been legally obliged to align its policies with the Paris climate accords. Read more.
